Our Executive Director, Anita Gurumurthy, has been recognized by MIT Sloan Management Review as part of the AI50: Leaders Shaping India’s AI Future. This list maps 50 individuals for their influence, technical depth, and role in deciding how AI gets built, deployed, and governed across the country.
This is a significant moment for IT for Change, where Anita leads crucial work on technology governance rooted in public interest, rights, and institutional accountability. Through her engagements with global forums and United Nations-linked processes, Anita broadens the AI conversation beyond innovation and adoption, placing questions of equity at the center of India’s digital future.
“Anita Gurumurthy approaches AI through power, rights and accountability. As founding member and executive director of IT for Change, she has spent years examining how digital systems affect labor, gender, public infrastructure and development, especially in the Global South. Her work asks who gains power when data becomes central to economies and who remains excluded from its benefits,” the magazine writes, describing Anita’s body of work.
We are grateful for this recognition and reiterate our commitment to building a just digital future with our network of collaborators across the globe.
