Tech for Bad, ETC Group, IT for Change, and the Global Digital Justice Forum are organizing a webinar, 'Drop Palantir', as part of the People vs. Palantir Action Week on 30 September 06:30 PM IST.
Anita Gurumurthy, Executive Director, IT for Change, will be joining Soledad Vogliano (ETC Group) and Tina Indrani Mason (Tech for Bad) for the webinar on the urgent need for the World Food Programme to end its partnership with Palantir. The discussion will be moderated by Taarini Chopra (ETC Group).
Putting the infrastructure of food assistance in the hands of a company built on military and surveillance contracts raises the risk that data meant to guarantee access to food could be used to track and profile the people who rely on it, and constrain their access instead. This is a direct threat to the right to food itself, not only to privacy.
At the webinar, we will be launching an open letter to the WFP and calling on civil society organizations, digital rights advocates, humanitarian workers, food sovereignty advocates, researchers, and concerned citizens to demand that the WFP end this partnership. Through this webinar, we hope to share the research on the WFP–Palantir partnership along with broader perspectives on tech monopoly, data governance, the right to food, and digital justice in the Global South.
