Deepti Bharthur took part in a panel discussion on ‘Silicon Valley and the Global South’ organized by the Berkley Student Forum on 1 December 2022.

New technologies, businesses, and leaders coming out of Silicon Valley have been revolutionizing ways of life globally. Capable of reaching the world’s most vulnerable populations in the Global South, many of these companies have applied a social impact model to alleviate issues such as poverty, hunger, and economic inequality. But in this process, are Silicon Valley's leaders promoting sustainable development or disrupting such communities? The panel debated this issue and much more.

Besides Deepti, Michael Kwet, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Johannesburg and Visiting Fellow at Yale Law School; Yael Perez, Development Engineering Program Director at UC Berkeley’s Blum Center for Developing Economies; and Hugh Morgan, Advisor at Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies; participated in the discussion.
