Project Leader - Education

Location: Bengaluru, India

IT for Change, an NGO that works on using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for social change at global, national and local levels, requires high school Mathematics/ Science/ English teachers, fluent in English or Hindi with minimum 3 years experience as Project Leaders for teacher education and school improvement programmes. We are looking for teachers having an ambition to bring about systemic change in the quality of education offered in government schools.

Our work with the Department of Education, Government of Karnataka, is in three areas:

(1) Working with the government to introduce new models of teacher training, integrating ICTs, in a pioneering programme called the Subject Teacher Forum. Over the last four years, 18,000 government high school teachers have come together to form a network (the largest global professional community of teachers) to share ideas, experiences and resources for mutual learning and development. In these email groups, more than 100,000 emails have been exchanged to support teacher learning and professional development. This is a unique project across the country, pioneering new models of teacher development.

(2) Creation of educational resources collaboratively with the Karnataka Government school teachers. The resources are available in a repository called the “Karnataka Open Educational Resources” (KOER) in English and Kannada. More than 400 teachers have contributed 7,000+ content pages in mathematics, science, Kannada and social sciences to create digital teaching learning resources in text, animation, audio and video formats.

(3) Working intensively, through the ‘Teachers Communities of Learning” program with a block of high schools in Bangalore to demonstrate ICT integration in curricular and pedagogical processes and share possibilities for systemic reforms with policy makers. This is being done through a teachers' community at the block level (similar to the state-wide forum). This programme includes teacher training workshops, projects with students and working in the classes with students and teachers.

We also work teacher education institutions (DIETs) in different districts in Karnataka and the state level institutions – DSERT and RMSA on program and policy aspects and network with other NGOs and institutions working in Karnataka education. Our work has earned the appreciation of the review mission of Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India and many states in India are interested to adopt similar programs in teacher education.

More information on our work in education can be found in our Annual Report

  4. Exploring technology integration possibilities for the subjects mentioned, including exploring the use of educational software tools

  5. Contribute to building subject teacher networks within districts and across the state of Karnataka and other states in India.
